「カーメン・ジョーンズ」に続き、当時恋仲だったドロシー・ダンドリッジと、オットー・プレンミジャー監督が組んだ、ミュージカル作品。ダンドリッジのお相手に、シドニー・ポワチエ。サミー・デイビス・ジュニアや、パール・ベイリー、アイバン・ディクソン、ブロック・ペータース等...と、豪華キャスティング。シドニー・ポワチエの歌の部分は「Don't Worry, Be Happy」が80年代に大ヒットしたボビー・マクファーリンの父でオペラ歌手だったロバート・マクファーリンが吹き替えしている。
シドニー・ポワチエは後で（本等で）この映画はやりたくなかったが、脅されて出演した事を明かしている。
