シドニー・ポワチエの演技は、どの形容詞をも超越している。あんなに活き活きとしていて、それでいて切ない。そして彼らの歌う「アーメン」も同じく、活き活きしていて、最後に切ない。
お互いの言葉を理解しようと、お互いの聖書で理解しあい、そこには、色も国も関係なく、そして一緒に笑い、学び、人々が助け合う姿が描かれている。ただ泣くだけのドラマとは違い、その中に暖かい笑いもある。
主人公が井戸の水をもらいに来た事で始まるこの物語、登場人物全員がその井戸の水よりも純粋。あそこまで純粋な人達が繰り広げるドラマは、人間の本来あるべき姿がそこにあった。
このシドニー・ポワチエの前では、映画界最高の勲章と言われている、オスカーですら、たんなる金のガラクタにしか見えない。この彼に値する勲章は、一人でも多くの人がこの作品に触れる事だと思う。その後は、皆さん同じ気持ちになると思うから...
