●^● バイオ

父親がアメリカの陸軍の諜報オフィサーだったので、幼い頃はドイツや日本の沖縄等世界各地を転々としていた。その後に一家はニューヨークに落ち着き、大学はジェームス・カーンやクリストファー・ウォーケンも在籍していたホフストラ大学を卒業した。舞台「ヘアー」にてブロードウェイデビューを果たし、「A Rasin in the Sun」のミュージカル「Raisin」の主役ウォルター・リー・ヤンガー役でトニー賞のミュージカル部門の主演男優賞にノミネートされ、注目を集めた。その頃から徐々にTVシリーズにゲスト出演するようになる。映画デビューは1977年の「Between the Lines」。1984年のジョン・セイルズのインディペンデント映画「The Brother from Another Planet/ブラザー・フロム・アナザー・プラネット」にて主役を演じて話題となった。その後には「クロスロード」や「タップ」、「ターミネーター2」等の大作にも出演。「ブルースブラザース2000」や「アメリカンギャングスター」等では個性的な演技を見せている。重要なバイプレイヤーとして、または主役として数々の作品に出演している。
