衝撃的。「Def Comedy Jam」で見た時のバーニー・マックは強烈で衝撃的でした。こんな面白い人がまだまだ世の中には埋まっているんだっていう衝撃。その後に見た「Above the Rim/ビート・オブ・ダンク」の浮浪者役も衝撃的でした。

●^● バイオ

シカゴのタフな地域サウスサイドで生まれ育ったバーニー・マック。幼い頃から家族や友人を笑わせる事が大好きだった。16歳の若さで最愛の母をガンで亡くし、高校に通いながら夜は職業研修の配達の仕事等をしていた。卒業後には、地域スポーツセンターのスポーツ指導員として働きながら公園でパフォーマンスしていた。シカゴの有名なリーガル劇場にて週１でパフォーマンスするようになり、1977年頃からスタンダップコメディ等で舞台に立つようになった。 1990年にようやくデーモン・ウェイアンズが司会をしたコメディの賞「Miller Lite Comedy Search」で、最優秀賞を受賞した時から彼の運が上向きとなる。そのウェイアンズが彼の映画へのキャリアを手助けして、ウェイアンズが制作総指揮を勤めた「モー'・マネー」で小さな役ドアマンで映画デビューした。その後は一時代を築いた「Def Jam Comedy」等に出演して、大人気になる。そしてスパイク・リーが製作総指揮をしたドキュメンタリーの「The Original Kings of Comedy」に出演。 2001年には自身のテレビシットコムシリーズ「The Bernie Mac Show」が開始。主役のマックは数々の賞に輝いた。映画では数々のコメディの脇役を務めながら、2004年には「Mr.3000」という主演映画が出来る。共演には人気・実力ナンバー1のアンジェラ・バセットが起用され、話題になった。「オーシャンズ11」シリーズにも出演し、ブラックムービーファンのみならず、映画ファンの心も掴んだ。 2008年8月9日、肺炎を患いシカゴの病院にて家族に囲まれながら、惜しくもこの世を去った。

サルコイドーシスという肺の病気を患っていた。「The Bernie Mac Show」で描かれていた通りに、実際に自分の姉（妹？）がリハビリに入るので、彼女の子供を引き取って育てていた。売れる前はワンダーブレッド（日本で言う所の山崎製パンのような有名なパン）のトラック運転や、スポーツセンターの指導員等数多くの仕事を経験している。
