いつも背中をピンと張った堂々した演技に好感が持てますね。「ロックダウン/Lockdown」や「The Wood/ソウルメイト」みたいな主役級でドンドン見たい人です。日本生まれだし、どうも親近感がありますね。

実の父が日本のプロ野球界で助っ人外国人として活躍していたクラレンス・ジョーンズ。その父が「南海ホークス」時代に、リチャード・T・ジョーンズが生まれたので、日本生まれになる。父のクラレンスは、1978年まで日本で活躍していた。リチャードは、日本を離れた後はロサンジェルスのカーソン地区で成長した。大学は、アラバマ州の有名なタスキーギ大にて哲学の学位を取ったが、その学生時代に舞台「A Raisin in the Sun」に出演し、俳優を目指すようになった。21歳の時に「What's Love Got to Do with It」にて、アイクとティナの息子役にて映画デビューを果たす。続く1994年には「Renaissance Man/勇気あるもの」で生徒の1人を演じ注目されるようになる。「The Wood/ソウルメイト」では主役の1人を演じる。同年には人気テレビシリーズ「Judging Aｍｙ」でレギュラーを獲得し、2005年まで続いた。最近は、クレジット無しで出る事もあるが、主演映画も耐えない人気俳優の1人だ。

* 2リーグ制になった日本プロ野球界初の助っ人外国人選手によるホームラン王に輝いたクラレンス・ジョーンズが、実の父親。（74年度、76年度） * リチャードが生まれた年に在籍していた南海ホークスでは、野村克也氏とチームメイト。 * 高校では、野球ではなくアメリカンフットボールをやっていた。
