ニューヨークで生まれ育ったロザリオ・ドーソンは、キューバ、ネイティブ・アメリカン、アフリカン・アメリカン、プエルトリカン、アイリッシュと、5つもの血が彼女には流れている。 16歳の時に、NYの街で、ラリー・クラークの「KIDS」の映画の出演をスカウトされた。1998年のスパイク・リー監督の「He Got Game」で一躍注目される。「Light It Up」では、フォレスト・ウィッテッカー、ヴァネッサ・L・ウィリアムス、アッシャーと共演。「Josie and the Pussycats」では、主役の一人に抜擢された。俳優イーサン・ホークが監督した「Chelsea Walls」にも出演。「メン・イン・ブラック２」では、ウィル・スミスと共演。
