彼が出るだけで、安心して見ていてられる。そんな安心感がある役者だ。大作での重要な共演者としての活動が注目されているが、「Rebound」や「A Lesson before Dying」等で見せた主役が凄く好きだ。特には「Rebound」で見せた、才能あるカリスマ性と崩れやすいヒーローの両極端を見せてくれた演技が、忘れられない。また、こんな映画が見たい...キャンバスのように、どんな芸術にでもなれる... そんな存在。

カンザスに生まれ、転々と引越しを繰り返したドン・チードルの演技のキャリアは、幼稚園から始まるらしい。そんなチードルは、早くから俳優を目指し、高校を卒業すると、カリフォルニアのCalifornia Institute of the Artsで、演技を学ぶ。舞台等も熱心に出演し、徐々のTVでのゲスト出演にありつくようになる。非凡な才能を発揮して、TVレギュラーを間もなく獲得すると、ジョン・アーヴィング監督作「ハンバーガーヒル」に出演。そこでも実力を発揮し、ショーン・ペンとロバート・デュバル主演、デニス・ホッパー監督の話題作「カラーズ」に出演したり、ロバート・タウンゼント監督・主演の「メテオマン」等に出演して、強い印象を残す。そして、「青いドレスの女」で、主演のデンゼル・ワシントンを食う悪役を演じて、批評家達から絶賛され賞を受賞。（後にワシントンはこの映画のチードルの悪役ぶりを見て「トレーニング・デイ」の出演を決めた）徐々に、主演の座をつかみ、今では、出演作がめじろうしで、ひっぱりだこだ。

ドン・チードルがバスケの伝説のを演じた作品「Rebound」にて、実の弟のコリン・チードルが、主役の若き時代を演じ、冒頭の15分位主役で出演している。コリンは、現在普通のビジネスマンとして会社で働いているらしい。歌手アンジェラ・ウィンブッシュの後でバックダンサーとして踊っている姿が見る事が出来る。
